The Horácká Gallery in Nové Město na Moravě is located in the premises of a former Renaissance chateau on Vratislavovo Square. The chateau was built at the end of the 16th century by Vilém Dubský of Třebomyslice. The building was damaged several times in the following centuries and then repaired, its final appearance in the Neo-Renaissance style dates back to 1874. The Horácká Gallery was founded in April 1964. The first exhibition spaces were located on the second floor of today's town hall, and the permanent exhibition was installed in two halls of the Nové Město chateau. In 1972, the entire castle complex was acquired for the needs of the gallery. Today, the Horácká Gallery's influence extends beyond the borders of the region. In its collection program, the gallery focuses on documenting the works of the most important figures in regional art in comparison with Czech fine art. Extensive collections of the estates of J. Lauda, J. Mařatka, V. Makovský, L. Martínek, K. Pokorný, J. Štursa, and other artists were acquired through donations or bequests from the artists themselves. The collection includes a concentrated collection of metallurgical glass from the 1960s and 1970s, produced by the well-known glassworks in Škrdlovice near Žďár nad Sázavou.
