About

(KineDok All Souls’ Day Special: DEATH OF DEAT

On All Souls’ Day, November 2, we will screen the documentary Smrti smrt simultaneously at five screening venues across the Czech Republic: (A)Void Floating Gallery in Prague, Klementinka Community Centre in Mladá Boleslav (the screening will take place at Havelský Cemetery in Mladá Boleslav), Y Café in Plzeň, Sektor 9 in Prague, and Futra in Orlová

The main event of our All Souls’ Day special will take place at Purkrabství in Prague’s Vyšehrad, where the screening will be followed by a moderated discussion with the film’s producer, Radim Procházka, and scientist Jan Pačes

The evening and subsequent discussion will be hosted by Zuzana Burešová, a journalist and presenter at Czech Radio, where she hosts programmes on Radiožurnál. Throughout her career, she has covered a wide range of topics, with a particular focus on powerful human stories. She has also collaborated extensively with Czech Television, contributing to programmes such as 13. komnata and Toulavá kamera, and has previously worked for the ČT24 news channel

🎥 A recording of the discussion will be published on November 3 or 4 on the Institute of Documentary Film’s YouTube channel

Join us on All Souls’ Day to open up a conversation about death, a subject that affects us all, yet one we still talk about surprisingly little.

By attending the event, visitors give permission to have their person photographed and audiovisually recorded for the promotional purposes of the KineDok project.

The essayistic documentary by director Dāvis Sīmanis explores not only the contemporary “market for eternal life” but also humanity’s deep-seated desire to transcend mortality. The film raises the question of whether the pursuit of immortality represents a real step toward human liberation or simply another way to cope with the inevitability of death.
